This 8^th of March is a very special day for humanity because we are celebrating the International Women´s Day. 

In Costa Rica the women had to walk a very difficult and stony way in order to obtain the real value they possess and to be recognized. However, the horizon for them is much better than before.

 Imagine that at the moment a woman has won the presidential elections!

However, this fact didn´t happen only alone but two things have happened at the same time: The elected President has gained leftover political merits in order to hold this post and because of the fact that the women´s efforts in Costa Rica start to achieve its fruits. The political struggles of the women in order to achieve their rights of equality started in Costa Rica by the right of poll of the women who in 1953 acquired the right to participate in the presidential elections.

In the year 2000 the political parties had the obligation to reserve for the women at least 40 % of the electoral posts. In the year 2014 the women will have the right to hold 50 % of the electoral votes which will assure an authentic equality. However, it still must be clear that the discrimination against women still continues.

There is still a real discrimination against the rights of the female workers compared with the rights of the male workers because the salary differs in a 29 % according to the statistics of the Ministry of Labor. Furthermore women still suffers discrimination related to domestic violence. 

IECR congratulates all the women of the world by this blog in their day inviting them to continue to struggle for their rights of sex equality which are still hurt nowadays.
