It is a pleasure to inform all of the internet users that once again for the seventh time the summer festival is taking place in the capital during these the three days of 12th, 13th, 14th of March from 10:00 a.m. a 10 p.m.
This cultural and sports summer event will be celebrated in the most important parks of San José by artistic and cultural presentations reactivating the public spaces through artistic, literary, recreational, handicraft, audiovisual, gastronomical and sports presentations. The entire weekend all visitors will enjoys these events for free.
Each of the parks involved in the summer festival TRANSITARTE 2010 has been assigned to a concept so that the visitors of the fair can participate in the different activities according to their personal interests. Here you are an extract of the information regarding the festival:
The Morazan park will be the center of concerts of groups of renowned trajectory as well as new talents. Furthermore there will an exhibition of the most beautiful dress suits of the Lights´ Festival.
The National Park will be the symbol of expression, exhibition and sales of visual arts and different workshops. Moreover you can enjoy an artistic program on scaffolds focused on performing arts with groups of renowned trajectory.
The system of municipal libraries will be located in the park of Spain offering an editorial and literary fair, book exchange, music, clowns, stilts, mimes, meetings with Costa Rican authors, festival of classic series and a variety of workshops to provide the visitor with direct contact with the artists. Furthermore there will be an important exhibition of governmental and independent publishing houses.
The recreational and sports activities will be celebrated in the Garden of Peace, where the Second Central American Championship of Hobby Boxing will take place. In addition the visitor will have the opportunity of enjoying extreme sport with presentations of martial arts, Tai Chi, cheerleading, table tennis, spinning, mini golf and the participation of the cantonal sports committee.

This 8th of March is a very special day for humanity because we are celebrating the International Women´s Day.
In Costa Rica the women had to walk a very difficult and stony way in order to obtain the real value they possess and to be recognized. However, the horizon for them is much better than before.
Imagine that at the moment a woman has won the presidential elections!
However, this fact didn´t happen only alone but two things have happened at the same time: The elected President has gained leftover political merits in order to hold this post and because of the fact that the women´s efforts in Costa Rica start to achieve its fruits. The political struggles of the women in order to achieve their rights of equality started in Costa Rica by the right of poll of the women who in 1953 acquired the right to participate in the presidential elections.
In the year 2000 the political parties had the obligation to reserve for the women at least 40 % of the electoral posts. In the year 2014 the women will have the right to hold 50 % of the electoral votes which will assure an authentic equality.However, it still must be clear that the discrimination against women still continues.
There is still a real discrimination against the rights of the female workers compared with the rights of the male workers because the salary differs in a 29 % according to the statistics of the Ministry of Labor. Furthermore women still suffers discrimination related to domestic violence.

I like to inform you that last Saturday 27th of February, an earthquake rating a magnitude of 8.8 affected Chile.
Until now the exact number of deaths is unknown but there is an estimate of 780 deaths and 2.000.000 victims. According to international information, great part of the coast is still flooded. The government of President Bachelet declared curfew in most parts of the country due to the disorder and the pillages in the affected areas because many desperate people started to plunder stores in order to get some food.
We ask for your collaboration through the international red cross which will soon be in charge of facilitating your help to the affected Chilean population.
this is the moment to enjoy international art in Costa Rica in the most important cultural event to be celebrated starting 18th of March till the first of April. During this international event there will be concerts of Fito Páez, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Ismael Serrano as well as presentations of the Odin Theatre, the National Ballet of Spain and the Company of Peter Brook de Switzerland.
Yesterday its organizers announced that the FIA program includes 115 presentations of 53 foreign artists and groups. 63 Costa Rican artists will also take part in this event amongst whom we can count on the National Dancing Company, Son de Tikizia and the National Symphony Orchestra.
On 19th of March the first event of inauguration will be performed with the participation of Ismael Serrano, Luis Eduardo Aute and Rosario Flores.The National Symphony Orchestra will honor the legend Star Wars by music, presentations and special effects.
A longtime awaited concert will be performed by Argentino Fito Páez on Saturday 27th and the big final will be on 28th with Salsa Sinfónica by Gilberto Santa Rosa and the Youth Symphony Orchestra.Furthermore, you will have the pleasure to enjoy the theatre plays of Dualia and The Legend.
On 18th of March the National Ballet of Spain will perform.Also the renowned dancer María Pages with a brilliant track in Spain and the rest of the world will be present. She will present the performance Flamenco Republic.
The theatre Mélico Salazar was selected for two of the coproductions between national and international artists. One of the presentations will be the Altarpiece of Maese Pedro which will be presented by the legendary puppet company Tia Nórica de Cádiz and the Symphony Orchestra of Heredia.
This festival will also be presented in the provinces:In Alajuela from 18th till 28th of March including the participation of Calipsonian of Belice and the company L´Explose of Colombia.
In Limón FIA will present concerts from 25th till 28th of March incluyendo groups like Garífunas, Reyes Ballenatos and five Costa Rican music groups.

I would like to comment the most outstanding of the Rio Summit.The state members achieved an agreement in order to create a new regional organization which can replace the present OAS. This new body will not count on the presence of the northern states, USA and Canada, which have been excluded.The new body will be constituted officially in the next group summit to be celebrated in Caracas.
The participants, 32 represented nations, approved the creation of this new regional block so that the Latin American countries build a single voice in the many-sided forums marking clear differences with respect to the United States. This country had professed a predominant roll within the frame of the OAS until now.
This new group is supposed to work in accordance with the OAS (Organization of American States).The new body will gather the rio group and the Carribbean Community (CARICOM) and work in accordance with the OAS. The agreement which will create it definitely is supposed to be signed during the coming summit of the rio group to be celebrated in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2011, and from then on the new body will start working.
During the closure of the summit the Costa Rican President Arias criticized openly the nations whose presidents have become authoritarian presidents who restrict by their positions the liberty of their fellow citizens.
There has also been friction during the summit between the Presidents of Colombia and Venezuela who reproached each other politics.

These are programs for all of those volunteers who like to collaborate in social projects in Costa Rica which are divided in two sections: Low cost projects and free projects.

ØPhysical education instructor in public schools. Schedule: Monday through Thursday
ØNational parks: There is availability for volunteers in almost all national parks of Costa Rica.
ØAssistant in food pantries for poor children. Schedule: Monday through Friday.

Some days ago the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama met US President Obama who demonstrated his support in favor of the human rights and a proper religious and linguistic identity. Furthermore Dalai Lama praised President Obama for many conditions of his country and for having received the Nobel Peace prize. This meeting stresses the relationship between China and the USAas being considered by Beijing to be a wrong step between both relationships. China considers the spiritual leader to be a Tibetan separatist leader. In any case the free destination of the peoples is what should be respected in any kind of political conflict.
No nation no matter how powerful it may be, has the authority to decide for the people. The fact that the Dalai Lama met President Obama in an open manner must not offend China because the Chinese President had met his US counterpart in many occasions not representing any affront to the Tibetan people´s honor.
So now the balance of Yin Yan has been set. The Dalai Lama meets the US President.
We´d like to inform you that the program CRV (Costa Rica Volunteer) is planning to start soon to recruit national and international volunteers who wish to perform a voluntary work in Costa Rica. Our present projects are offering support to organizations and projects amongst the poorest ones. In some of these projects basic Spanish knowledge is required for which we recommend to participate in a Spanish course of IECR.
Right now we are accepting volunteers who are interested in working in the following programs:
Program of Food pantries for the hungry
Orphanages
Construction of Houses for families of restricted resources
Voluntary work in public schools
Public Health
National parks and protected areas
Environmental projects

IECR has lately taken the decision to collaborate with another new program helping the poorest people of this country.
This new program is called Costa Rica Volunteers. It´s a program of coordination between volunteers and development projects in different areas of social needs in which volunteers of any part of the world will come to Costa Rica and offer their direct and solidary support to social programs. The social programs which require volunteers will be divided into the following fields amongst others: education, health, rural development, assistance to orphans, community programs, environmental protection
We hope that the mentioned IECR programs will turn out to be low cost projects in order to count on the collaboration of thousands of volunteers from all over the world.
